Brenna Baker started her career as a glass artist in Corning, NY at the age of 14. Having gained her technical and aesthetic foundations in Corning, a town synonymous with glass, has given her many opportunities and privileges. She has spent a year working in Murano, Italy directly under Pino Signoretto, arguably the world’s finest glass sculptor, this was followed by traveling the world on cruise ships with the Hot Glass Show of the Corning Museum of Glass, and then, on to becoming the youngest female Master Gaffer and only the second female gaffer ever employed by Steuben Glass. These amazing experiences have led Brenna to be able to live out her life’s dream of being a successful independent glass artist.
Although having worked on many private installations, she is honored to have her first public lighting installation be included in the Gaffer Grille and Tap Room’s renovation celebrating its 10 years as a successful business. As a production glass artist, one of her objectives in her lighting is to share the beauty and functionality of glass and its unique quality to define atmospheres through form, color and texture as it captures and releases light. She feels that to be able to accomplish this at what is now the world famous Gaffer restaurant in the heart of the Gaffer district in the very epicenter of the Crystal City is one of her crowning accomplishments to date in her young career as an independent glass artist. Her graceful fluid forms that comprise the lighting elements throughout the restaurant frame a large sculptural vessel sitting on a mantel behind the bar that becomes a focal point of the installation.
Brenna feels fortunate to have had the opportunity to work collaboratively with such a master and have this as a centerpiece of the installation.
